Scotts Valley High School (SVHS) is a public high school located in Scotts Valley, California. It was founded in 1999 and is a part of the Scotts Valley Unified School District, which is in Santa Cruz County. The school has grown tremendously in the past 7 years, even while facing all the challenges a new High School can face.
Today, the high school boasts an excellent staff and a full IB programme. While the school has been faced with teacher turnover due mainly to the high cost of living in the area, and the low amount of funding this low-wealth district receives from the state. However, the current staff just completed the last part of it's 6-year WASC accreditation process with it's self-study, a huge and tremendously important endeavor. Several years ago, the staff, students and District were faced with a claim of a 'gay agenda' on campus. However, today the staff and students have an active NCBI group and promote tolerance of all types of people. The District recently settled the largest construction defect lawsuit in Santa Cruz County history and has spent the last year working on resolving those defects. Four classrooms that were closed due to mold will be open again at the beginning of the 2007/2008 school year.
Athletics: Baseball Scotts Valley High's first varsity baseball program was developped in 2003 under former head coach and major league ball player Tom Urbani. The 2004 Varsity team set a high level of expectation for the program when they made the CCS semifinals. This legacy of greatness has been taken over by head coach [Giuseppe Chiaramonte], who led the team to a SCCAL League Championship in 2006.
Football The Football team is coached by the schools Athletic Director Louie Walters. The football team won their first league title in 2006, with a 9-1 record. The team beat power house schools like Pacific Grove, Wilcox, and the Alaskan State Champs in Juneau during there 2006 campaign. David and Philip Bliss were named to the first team all state squad.
Soccer The SVHS Men's soccer program is a steadily growing program. Under the guidance of Rene North, the men's team made their first CCS playoff appearance in 2006.
