PS#3 has become the Jewel of downtown Jersey City. Not everyone thinks its perfect - but it is pretty close! If you want diversity and community, this is your school. PS#3 has the best Principal who inspires the staff and students - they LOVE Mr. Mischel and they are eager to please him. He teaches respect, fun and responsibility in all things. Its a beautiful bright campus where kids can PLAY OUTSIDE....go figure. And its a very well rounded, parent involved school with great teachers. My children's class photos look like a UN meeting - the reality of the multicultural habitat we call Jersey City. The ONE problem is the campus is shared with MS#4. This Middle School has MANY students who litter, curse, lack basic manners and show apathy towards adults/little kids on their campus. I have witnessed fights in the streets nearby (as soon as they get out of eye-shot of the campus) and they will sit on people's parked cars. They have an AP program at MS#4 program but bullying is notorious there. They have a bullying 'squad' to fight the issue, its that bad. Its hard to walk through them with your child - they will not move and will also play sports/run right through the crowds of elementary kids walking to class. I hope the MS4 leadership staff steps it up, for all of us: the elementary AND middle school kids/parents/staff. :[ Otherwise - PS#3 is an excellent public school.
