The academics are excellent at south and there are many opportunities for learning there. There is not doubt that most students go on to have good lives after south. The facilities are good, with a weight room and fitness room. Drug rates are low. Not a lot happens at south. We take pride in that. Fights are uncommon, and they usually only consist of threats or pushes. We have a lot of extracurricular and they are all famous throughout the state. Our sports are pretty good. Parents are involved! Parents fill in when we need help, and they pay for everything. The only things that I would consider are that we are a school in a very good neighborhood, it feels very safe. The other thing is that academics are our thing at south. And the workload is crazy compared to other schools (regular/honors track), but that’s why we do so well. Everyone is nice to everyone else. We have great teachers, most with a lot of experience. There are a lot of ways to get help if you need it. Also we have so many ways that you can relate with others. We have many clubs to help with that for example: Otaku Club (anime/DDR), Asian Club, International Club, Latin Club, Spanish Club, French Club, Gay Straight Alliance, H20 (for muslims-i think), Students for students (SADD, students against destructive decisions), Student Union, Presidents Club (club leaders meet), Southwinds (literary magazine), Yearbook, and if we don’t have it you can start it. Presidents club got started this year because a student requested it! We also have some great academic teams like: Mock Trial (pretend to be lawyers, like debate), Forensics Team (like speech team), Model UN (learn about different countries and present), Science Olympiad (different scientific events), Chess Team, Scholastic Bowl (like jeopardy except not in the form of a question and in teams). Great School, Great School. Worth it, good education.
