There are so many opportunities and connections that you can get in this school. There are so many clubs, and if you're ever in doubt, you can always create your club by having your friends or people come with you. There are always people (both staff and students) willing to help you when in need. Everyone is super supportive and makes the school seem like a big, cozy community. This school is very motivating and provides many mental health resources to all students. The school pays attention to its students, which is excellent in such a rigorous environment.

John Dewey High School offers many opportunities for students to become involved in their school. They also have very informative teachers and faculty who can answer students'' questions. The academics have high standards, but the teachers make it enjoyable. There's a lot of diversity, and I rarely hear about bullying. The school is very open to learning about other students'' cultures and respects all students'' religions. The school offers a positive atmosphere and friendly faces in the hallways.

I'm glad I went to Dewey, the community as a whole is very diverse and friendly! All of my teachers were highly educated in their subjects and there were so many regular classes and AP classes that you are allowed to enroll in!

The teachers in John Dewey are very informative and help any student who needs it. The classes are engaging because they try to apply the concepts to real-world situations. The grading systems that the teachers use are fair, and anyone can do well if they try. Some teachers were strict in grading, but those were the same teachers that prepared you the best for the regents and AP tests.

That is also just the gym courses. There are art courses, music courses, science courses, and many more that, as a student, help you learn more and more. I've recently transferred from New Utrecht High School, and the differences are unique. Students and staff are very friendly, and it's not hard to make friends. The teachers communicate with the students very well, no matter the situation, from learning to personal issues. The overall experience at this school is just unique.

Dewey is a diamond in the rough. When I say that, it's because it has long been surrounded by failing schools--yet Dewey perseveres. Dewey's unconventional methods of instruction and liberal progressive education pedagogy have excelled for decades, accepting students from across the city and the community. While the philosophy has been recalibrated to serve a different population in recent years, Dewey still sends its top students to Ivy League colleges and prepares them for not only college but for life. The diversity is also fascinating. I've seen students from Tibet and Mongolia here; few schools get to say they have such students. Overall, this school is a great one. It could improve through grants and a larger budget, I believe. This is not the school's fault, however. Public education needs to be supported more.

If I could give this school 100 stars, I would. First, I have to say the principal, teachers, and staff are incredible and very professional. My child had a bad experience at another public school, so I transferred him to John Dewey and crossed my fingers. Well, my kid loves this school so much that he was upset when school ended in June. His grades even went up. He signed up this summer to help the incoming freshman. He adores the teachers, staff, and students. The school is like an extended family. They care for their students, and the teachers even call the house to remind the parents of upcoming exams. The atmosphere there is just phenomenal. I've met all the kids there, and they are lovely, and my kids have become friends with so many of them. I write with such enthusiasm because both of my kids attended catholic school and are blessed and fortunate to be students at John Dewey, which is safe and cares for its students.

Dewey is a great high school! The teachers really care about students'' success and happiness and are always there to help. We''re kept very updated at this school, and I''ve never felt lost. This has been especially helpful lately as I am getting ready to apply to colleges! Something very apparent walking through the halls is Dewey''s pride. The students are constantly coding, dancing, drawing, etc. We''re offered a huge variety of AP Courses along with really unique electives (Computer Science, Robotics, Business Management, Culinary Arts, Pre-Med, Law, Dance, Studio Art, Theatre, etc.) Dewey is great for experiencing different classes, cultures and making friends.
