School Reviews

These other reviews are actually insane... I feel like they''re under the impression that every other school is perfect based on how they look from the outside. I've been to several schools from K-12, and octorara was easily my favorite. Yeah, you have to pay for sports. Sports are, what, $100 per sport? I mean yeah that's money but realistically that's affordable. The bullying that I witnessed at other schools was far worse than at octorara, and honestly I don''t think that octorara has a bullying issue. What I noticed was that each graduating class had different circumstances as far as that... and some of them had some mean students. That's unavoidable and hard to deal with. The reviews here fail to mention that octorara has some really really good teachers and I didn''t have a single teacher there who didn''t genuinely care about my education and try to seek me out to help me if my grade wasn''t looking as good as they believed it could. I didn''t have every teacher, so obviously I can''t say they''re all amazing, but they have some very, very good teachers, who were easily the best I've had in all of my education. I don''t know how they ended up at this one school, but it was great. I can''t speak on the taxes because honestly they don''t make a lot of sense, but I enjoyed my time there and am happy that I was able to graduate from there.

Well...the two reviews above maybe almost 4 years old but they are still right on the money..well, actually our taxes have gone up and our test scores have gone down. Student population is decreasing and the taxpayers are left footing the bill for new or newly renovated schools that are under-utilized...thanks to a school board that failed to listen to parents who were concerned about a down turning economy. And this same school board is holding on to the pipe dream of a 10yr old feasability study that was wrong on just about every point- can't expect a population boom when you have the highest taxes and lowest performing schools in Chester County can 'ya...if you are considering moving into this district..don't.

This is a poor school in all areas. Parents pay very high school taxes and still have to pay for child to be in sports. They lack in academics, very poor schoolastically, lack extracurricular activities of any kind. Lacking in sports, music and art. Transportation for kindergarden only provided one way. Not a kid friendly enviroment.

My 3 daughters (17,12,8) attend Octorara since kindergarten. I had to fight & insist the school test 2 of my kids for a learning disability when the school insisted they didn't see anything wrong. Both were diagnosed with a disability & my 6th grader was reading at a 3rd grade level. And they didn't see a problem here? Based on my experience and several other parents I've spoken to, the bullying is horrible! I dont think the school punishes the bullies at all. So much for the No bullying policy Some of the teachers have discussed their personal & dating lives with the class. My kids (6th & 11th grade)& some of their friends have told me about all kinds of drugs going around the school they witness on a daily basis. The district built a fifth school they can't afford and have remodeled the high school. Octorara is the highest millage rate in Chester County (taxes) but claim they're broke and want to take away sports! Are you kidding me? Sports is the ONLY thing they have to offer at this point. When my husband & I bought our first house in Parkesburg 13 yrs ago we were excited about the school and area. I had graduated from Coatesville and didn't want to send my kids there. Now, I wish I had because Coatesville is looking much better now that we have experienced Octorara District. If you still have a choice, do not choose Octorara District! Most likely you will regrett it!
