School Reviews

I waited until my daughter graduated to add this review. This school started well when my daughter entered in the 6th grade but by the 8th grade, it went downhill. They had several teachers that were great throughout but a few of the new teachers were nothing but sub-par. My daughter became ill one day and her teacher ignored her raised hand for 10 minutes before allowing her to go to the nurse alone! The school is on the 4th floor, what if she fell. She mentioned she was not feeling well to the guidance counselor as well, who also sent her downstairs. They tried to call me but I missed the initial call. The nurse eventually told her she could either sit in the main office or return to class. Return to class?! The school is on the 4th floor! What happens if she falls?! She ended up having a virus and out for several days. I tried to call to complain and the parent coordinator lied about the principal leaving town. My husband ended up walking in without an appointment to find him there and made them talk to him. I also filed a 311 complaint. The algebra teacher was inexperienced and failed the semester of teaching. They talk to you like you are stupid but guess what I have a Master's degree. Please don't. I tried to talk to the principal but again the parent coordinator managed to block us and other parents from meeting with him. Even the students created a petition to remove the teacher. My daughter passed her regents but only because I had to pay for private tutoring. I do not recommend this school.

I am a former parent of Soundview Academy. My son was transferred in from a charter school in Harlem. He transferred in for the many Art and technology opportunities Soundview Academy had to offer. Because of my son artistic background, he took to the Visual Arts program and blossomed. The Art Teacher worked well nurturing the students and helped my son with his HS Arts portfolio which got him accepted into High School of Arts & Design in Manhattan, NY. I am grateful for the nurturing atmosphere Soundview Academy provided my son further grooming his skills in the arts.
